HG IBO 1/144 Gundam Kimaris Vidar Review

The vengeful man has revealed himself to be a.... vengeful Marquis of Hell.

How's it going guys? Today we'll be taking a look at Gali Gali's new mobile suit, the Gundam Kimaris Vidar. I honestly never thought that we'd see the Kimaris again after such a long time since it was destroyed in the first season's last episode. But, where is the Vidar essence of this kit, I wonder?

I have to say, this being an IBO kit which is usually full of stickers, it surprisingly has great color separation, which I'l cover up later. If there's one thing I kinda dislike about this kit, it'll be the matt brownish grey feet among the white and bell flower. Then again, it could be a reference to the real marquis itself who is depicted riding on horseback.

Front View

Those yellows on the feet, sides of the head, side skirts, and back skirt are all PARTS. Those round bell flower colored parts on the shoulders and the vents on the feet are also parts. The torso's white part is one white piece that slides right into the whole front torso assembly. Kinda reminds me of Harute Gundam tho...

You also get a new waist which is wider than original. This is to avoid articulation/movement hampering on the kit.

Rear View

All the color separation glory! The Gjallarhorn symbol you see on the shield is a sticker, but there is a special place to slap it on the shield, slightly indented. So the stickers will fit super nicely and will look like a part of the shield. Kudos, Bandai. Don't say that too often.

That purple on the elbows are stickers. The worst sticker placements on the kit.

Articulations

This is the same Gundam Frame as all other IBO Gundams we've seen so far. The only new articulations will be for the shields' arms. Also, the leg's outside swing movement is hindered by the large side skirts.

The shield arms can move around freely with the swivel joint at the backpack, double joint at the joint's center, and a ball joint connecting the arms to the shield.

A close-up at the double joint.

Accessories

Kimaris Vidar didn't come with a lot of stuff, but they're effective.

You get the drill lance, a katana, a drill bit, and a dedicated right hand to pose with the lance. I'm not really a big fan of lances though....

Seems the lance combines the aspects of the good old original Kimaris lance and the Trooper's blunt tip lance. There's a color separation in the lance as well.

The easiest way to attach the lance to the hand is to remove the handle, slide it into the hand, then reattach the lance. This is something the previous two lances cannot do-also this one doesn't have a peg on the handle anymore, so it'll be easier to position the lance in any way you want.

Next up is the dedicated hand part for posing with the lance, which looks like a thumbs up.

I've found that this lance is unusually heavy, whereas the Kimaris Trooper's lance isn't really heavy compared to this one. Everytime I wanted to strike a jousting pose with this, the hand keeps dropping or popping off. Is this just an issue with my kit, or is this a common issue for all Kimaris Vidars out there? In this case I have to rest the handle pommel at the waist.

Then, we have the katana. It slides right into the hands and it's a perfect fit. Forgot to take a pic of it, but that hole on the hilt is for storing the katana into the side skirts.

Next up is the drill bit that goes into the knee. I found that posing with this weapon is really damn tricky.

Or you can jam it into the hand like this and replicate the scene in episode 49 if you own a Gundam Bael. This isn't recommended because if you keep forcing it, you might break the hand,

The last weapon is in the shield itself, a KEP bullet which is basically a Dainsleif. To access the bullet, open the shield, tuck it out with your finger and pull the bullet out before reattaching the shield into the second slot.

The shield then extends like so. Insert the bullet from the lance's back and combine the shield. And you have the lance's Dainsleif firing mode, which was never used in the anime. It's really tricky to pose with this configuration and getting the right angle.

Pros:

-Knightly design
-A nice bulk
-Cool gimmicks
-Nice color separation

Cons

-The lance is too damn heavy to hold
-Love or hate design&colors
-Stickers on the elbows are shit

Verdict

I can't get much pose from lances, and since the arm keeps popping off everytime, I screwed it. Other than that, this is a great kit with a nice color separation. The knightly design, the bulk, and the weight that I felt when holding it, it really is worth it. Although the elbow stickers really ruined it for me, but hey I can always repaint it.

The question is, should you get this kit? Definitely yes, if you are a Kimaris fan. I personally never liked lances, so if I'll ever customize this, I'll cut the lance and make it into a sword instead.

That is all for the review, and as usual, see you next time.
