HG IBO 1/144 Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex Review
Another long name... but comes with a bastardly fearsome weapon set. I've been having this kit for like 2 or 3 weeks now, but college starts to infect me and I haven't had enough time to review it. Anyway here it is... The King of Wolves... the final form of Barbatos.... Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex!!!
I gotta say right off the bat: this kit, for a HG, despite the atrocious placement of stickers (read: those yellow claws on each feet), is damn straight AWESOME! Never in my life I have seen such a beastly design embodied in a Gundam before!
The creatural silhouette is a big pro for this kit. Now, if you wanna talk about which version of the Barbatos is better, it's totally up to you. Me personally, I still love the original Lupus.
Front View
Rear View
That Tekkadan symbol you see are purely made of parts. The gunmetal colors on each side skirts are stickers.
Look at those big, gorilla arms! I painted the nails with a gold Gundam Marker, and they're starting to fade.
This here is also a f****ing sticker. A big one as well, and an eyesore to look at. I highly recommend to paint it. That part moves up and down just like the original Lupus' back thruster.
I'll skip the articulations because this is just your average Gundam Frame. The only things that's new are the shoulder joints are NOT polycaps-they're solid plastic. And that plastic-to-plastic connection gives it a solid feel for the big arms.
However, the big arms aren't just for show. There's a gimmick incorporated to each forearms, which is the sub-arms. In the anime there are 200mm guns on each forearm, but I don't see anything that looked like gun barrels...
Accessories
Accessories wise, Lupus Rex didn't come with a lot. You get two holding hands with no extra hand covers (pain in the a$$), a large-gauge wire for the tail blade, and the ultra-large mace which is just an upscaled version of the original Barbatos mace.
It fits perfectly into the hand. Take note the holding hands of Lupus Rex can only hold weapons with circular handles.
When fully deployed, the mace is even larger than the Gundam itself.
The wire connects to the blade like so. What would a beast be without a tail, eh? And this tail kills people!
Verdict
Lupus Rex is overall a great kit, looking all beastly and ferocious. But the sticker placements are just awful, especially the ones on the feet claws-mine's beginning to wear off. The nails on each fingers aren't colored either... but then again its just a HG. Then again the 1/100 version didn't have colored nails as well. So, buy it or not? I have to say yes, get it. Recommended for IBO fans and beginners because I find the forearms construction are really simple.
I'm gonna skip the actions because I seriously have no idea what pose this kit can strike to look cool, other than a beastly attack pose. That's all for the review, see you next time.... in Skyrim: Gunpla Edition.
Seriously the next kit I'll review has the Skyrim vibe to it!!
